Way to hold out, show some integrity. Every other person who responded went through and worked the whole thing out.

Nicely done.

you know its a trick question cuz bob is never stated as dead. in question 3 it say what age will sally's son be when he finally get the CHANCE to take out his revenge for the death of his real father?" so for all you know he never got that chance :D

he'd get 56 years in prison, cos she was 28 when she got pregnant.
If he killed the mailman as soon as he found out Sally was pregnant, then he'd have 52 years left to serve.
Sally's son will be 55 when Bob is released from prison, but he could take out his revenge earlier i suppose by bringing a gun into the prison for a meeting with him, but that all depends on the prison.
Bob's age on his tombstone will be 90, but again that depends on whether the son killed him earlier.
and no one would visit his grave
:D

wait. i did that wrong.
copy bens answers to a) and b) but question c) he'd be 39 if he killed Bob within 3 months of him being released assuming he's sentence started within 3 months of the murder.
and 70 would be on the tombstone.
but theres way to many variables to give a real answer.

a) 12 years
b) 28 years
c) 40-ish
d) Son would dump his body in a lake, there would be no gravestone. But Bob would be 70.
e) See above
f) No.

Bob is 42 Years old, his wife sally is 32 years old. Sally's son was conceived when Sally was 20 years old. Bob is sadly sterile...

A: Bob has been in jail for 12 years assuming that he murdered the mailman when he found him in bed with his wife having an after sex smoke. This also takes into account that he pleaded guilt that afternoon and asked to be put in jail right away to just get it over with.

B: Bob will endure ass raping and other jail time fun for 28 more years.

C: Sally and the Mailman's son will be approximately 39 years 3 months old when his father's 40 years of jail time fun is over.

D: Bob's tomb stone will read He lived to the ripe old age of 70 to be struck down by his Mailman's son.

E: The Mailman's wife will visit to take a big shit on his tomb stone.

E: No.

1) 42x(2/3) = 28 years old
2) He's been in jail for 4 years since she is 32, and was 28 at time of pregnancy.
3) 2x28=56
---56-4=52 years left
4) 52+3= 55 years old for junior.
5) (assuming Bob is killed within the year of his release) 94 years old (42+52 for those that are bad at logic)
6) Maybe Sally to laugh at him
7) NO U
P.S. - This wasn't THAT hard. Just working basic substitution and arithmetic. How you all are getting those different figures is beyond me.

You missed the "Bob is 10 years older than Sally" bit.

Draithy  [49 posts]

I agree, Sally's age was 20 yrs, so Bob got 40 years jail-time... Now, depending on WHEN the mailman was murdered, there could be 9months of leeway, presuming it was obvious that the baby was not Bob's when it popped out of Sally.

Assuming that the mailman was murdered that same day that Sally conceived, and assuming Bob was arrested, indicted, and sentenced within a rapid time-frame, then Bob has been in jail for roughly 12 years.
40 years were sentenced, minus the 12 he's already served, and Bob has 28 years left to finish his jailtime.

There are a myriad of factors dictating what age the son will be when he "gets a chance" to avenge the mailman... But let's say 18, since that's a good round age. If the boy's 18, then that's 6 years after the time-frame of the start of the riddle, so Bob will have the age of 48 on his tombstone, although typically the date is written, not the age...

Sally might visit it... but only to deface it.

a) Bob has been in jail for 12 years.
b) Bob will be in jail for 28 more years.
c) Sally's son will be 19 when he gets to take out his revenge for the death of his real father, since he'll begin committing crimes at the age of 16, being raised in a broken home.
d) There will be no tombstone. However, Sally's son will engrave profanities next to Bob's corpse in the ditch by the side of the country trail.
e) The police, 8 years later, hinted by the crows gathering in the area.

1)he got charged 56 years, served 4
2) 52 years left
3) depending on how long it took for bob to be convicted, the kid will be anywhere from 56 to in his 60's
4) this is a guess question really, i bet he'll be shanked in prison when he is 48
5) I'll visit

Why are numerous people stating Sally's age at 20, are you retarded?

Anonymous
That is when Sally got pregnant, because since she is 10 years younger than bob, and she got impregnated when she was 2/3 of Bobs age, making Bob 30 and Sally 20.

sally was 2/3 of bobs age, and bob is 10 years older than her. therefore, sally would be 20 and bob would be 30.

They are stating her age as 20 when she got pregnant... which... if you read it... seems pretty obvious. ;)

Because she was pregnant at 20.
when Sally is pregnant:

Sally=(2/3)Bob, (1/3)Bob=10.

>>Sally=20; Bob=30.
Jailtime=(2)Sally=40.

This 28yr old thing is nonsense; Sally=Bob-10. 28=/=42-10

scissorcat  [4 posts]

When Sally was 20, Bob was 30. At that time, Sally was 2/3 Bob's age. The people saying 28 are assuming Sally became pregnant when she was 2/3 of Bob's CURRENT age of 42.

Anonymous

Because she WAS 20.... she is 10 years younger than Bob.... So She is 32 at the start of the question... 20 is 2/3rds of 30 and fits both criteria of being 10 years younger and 2/3rds the age

42*2/3=28 which is when she got pregnant not her age when Bob is 42. Retards.

Bob is 42, minus 10 means Sally is 32. The ten-year age difference means that when he was 30, she was 20, which fulfills the 2/3 of his age when she got pregnant.

Now, Bob's sentence would be 40 years. For the rest of the times, we must take into account several variables:
--How soon after he found out did he kill the mailman?
---Was plotting necessary, or did he rush right out and do it?
--How long did it take before he was arrested?
---Did he flee? Nationwide manhunt? Caught red-handed?
--How long did it take to process him through the judicial system to receive his sentence?

Thus you can assume he's been in jail for 42 (his current age) minus his age at the time of sentencing. That could be anywhere between 12 and 0 years (he might have started yesterday) of jail time served.

And so he'll be in jail for 40 years minus the zero to 12 years served, or 28-40 years.

Sally's son may not live to see it. Or Bob may die before he gets the chance. Also, he may embrace pacifism or a stoic acceptance. If he does get the chance and follows through, he'll be between 28 and 40.

No age will be written on Bob's tombstone, but the dates of his birth and death will be. But who said he wanted a tombstone? Maybe he wants to be cremated & scattered, sans burial plot.

If by "it" you mean will anyone visit Bob's tombstone, well that's irrelevant to Bob since he'll probably never know. Odds are if Sally & her son hold a grudge they'll never visit it, but what about Bob's family and friends he's made? Surely they won't all turn their backs on him...in fact they'd be more likely to support him despite his crime. At the very least, the grounds caretaker will visit his tombstone every time he mows.

Unfortunately the son wouldn't be 28 to 40. He would be 40 to 68. If he was conceived around the time of the murder, he would still age while Bob was on the run or in prison.

Correct you are. 40-68, not 28-40. In my defense, it was late when I wrote that out.

BOB is 42. SALLY is 32. Sally got prego when she was 28=(42/3)*2.
-Amnt of time is 2*sally (WHEN SHE GOT PREGNANT). So he does 56 years. He got 56 years when sally was 28, she is now 32, so he's been in jail for 4 years.

-56-4=52 more years

- if we assume he was born the year he was concieved then he would be 56

-assuming he was killed at the chance his step son got to kill him the age would be 94

-of course not, he's a murderer

-^^^^

Bob is 42, Sally is 42-10=32, her son was conceived when Sally's age was 2/3 of Bob's, so her age at conception was 20, since at that time her age was 2/3 Bob's age, which is 10 years older than Sally's. Bob has 0 functioning sperm.

1) Bob's sentence was 40 years, and the sentence was passed 12 years ago, so he was in jail for 12 years.

2) He will be in jail for another 28 years, during which time he will contract 3 separate strains of gonorrhea over the course of 119 prison rapes.

3) Sally's son will be 21 in 9 years, at which point he will rape his girlfriend's mother and be sent to the same prison as the man who killed his father. A shank made out of a letter opener will be his weapon of choice to kill his father's murderer with a tool of his father's trade.

4) No age will be written on Bob's tombstone, because he will be buried in an unmarked grave in the quarry where the prisoner's do hard labor.

5) The unmarked gravesite will be visited by raccoons, hungry for the eyeballs of the recently dead.

And for those of you who thought Sally's son was conceived 4 years ago, never go to college. You are wasting time and money.

Seriously? why are people failing so hard and getting sally's age at 20? I assume when it says "sally was 2/3 of bob's age when she got pregnant" that he is referring to bob's current age. why would you randomly say it would be two thirds of bob's age when he was 30?

P.S. sorry about anon post, except the people who got sally's age at 20, you deserve this anon post.

Again, It says she was pregnant WHEN she was two thirds of his age.

Not that she's pregnant now, and is two thirds of his age.
Also notice the "She is 10 years younger than Bob" bit.

Sally is 10 years younger than Bob which means that she was 2/3 of his age when she was 20 and he was 30 (20 = 2/3 *30). 30 isn't just a random number.

However 2/3 of his age right now is 28.

Both answers are right it's just the matter of reading the question and understanding it your way.

sh545  [2 posts]

Read it again. The wording is ambiguous but the common sense answer, and way these kind of problems are normally posed suggests 20 is the answer.
Sally gets pregnant when she was 2/3rds of Bob's age. This could mean 2/3rds of 42, but more likely means 2/3rds of the age Bob was at the time Sally got pregnant.

Which interpretation do you think would be a maths question? The one where you just multiply one number by another, or the one where you actually have to think a little?

- Been in jail for approximately 12 years (any possible differential cannot be derived from the question)
- Will be in for another 28 years
- Cannot be derived from question
- Cannot be derived from question
- Cannot be derived from question
- Sally would have been 2/3 of Bob's age at age 20 (20/30=2/3). 2*20=40 years sentenced, and, assuming Bob was sentenced at age 30, 42-30=12 years already in prison. 40-12=28 more years left, and the rest cannot be derived from the question; more information is needed.

Since babies can't be born out of marriage, and since bob is sterile, the whole pregnancy thingie is a scam. Sally is not pregnant, and Bob should feel bad for killing an honorable mailman.

Haha just kidding, junior will beat the hell out of Bob at age 16 when he learns how to break out (and into) prison har har har

Alright, here goes.
4) Sally got pregnant from the mailman when she was 20 and Bob
was 30. Since Bob is now 42, that was 12 years ago.
- Assuming that Bob caught his wife and the mailman in flagrante,
killed the bastard and was imprisoned for 40 jears right away,
he has been in jail for 12 years.
- And he will be in jail for 28 more years.
- His age will be the 40 years of his fathers imprisonment, plus
perhaps 1 month for the trial, minus 9 months for obvious
reasons => 39 years and 4 months.
- 30 years at the murder plus 40 years in jail = 70 years when
he is killed by his mailmans son. 1968-2038. RIP.
- Well, he probably doesn't have any friends who aren't in
prison. Assuming that his wife broke off all contact after he
killed her lover, and his fertility problems run in the family
therefore he has no siblings, and since he was 70 his parents
are long dead - Probably not.
- Errr no.
