Spin-off: Bed and Breakfast Rwanda

Spin-off: Bed and Breakfast Rwanda
May. 19, 2010

After the success of their hotel, Paul Rusesabagina (Don Cheadle) and his wife Tatiana (Sophie Okenedo) decide they want to leave the busy life of running a hotel and open a bed and breakfast out in the beautiful Rwanda countryside. You know, take it easy and relax, get to really know the people that visit. Everything seems to be going great.

And wouldn't you know it, another civil war breaks out.

The couple helps as many people as they can, their home becoming a refugee camp of sorts. Paul is a source of strength for those in the cottage, caring for the refugees while maintaining the appearance of a functioning bed and breakfast. In the end, the lives of over 1,000 refugees are saved, which is an even bigger feat than last time considering they're all living in a moderately-sized cottage.

Sitcom Idea: The couple share a small New York studio apartment with the nation of Rwanda.

See now this is borderline offensive. And I totally realize that you intend to make stuff offensive because its funny (and trust me its always funny), but mocking a tragic event in human history is ridiculous! I normally am not easily offended and while this has humorous aspects to it, I still genuinely believe that such a thing is wrong. What happened in Rwanda should have never happened and the story of Rwanda should be a lesson for all of mankind, to mock it by making a parody is below even you Matt! I have always thought of your stuff as being funny, but I cannot condone this is any manner whatsoever!

Fahizille, think about which generation of people would most likely be reading this. Then think about how many of them know where Rwanda is and also whether they know about the Civil War and the horrible things that happened. Matt's post might spark them to actually watch Hotel Rwanda and get a grasp of what it was actually like.
PS you probably dislike hitler jokes too!

fahizille, I can see where you're coming from, but this is a site dedicated to unfiltered speculation from a comical point of view. I'm quite positive Matt had no intention of offending anyone, or atleast not to a point of frustration like you yourself seem to be. I mean, we see people laughing at events like the Holocaust all the time. To some it could seem crude, but in our high-strung society, a little tolerance goes a long way. Mocking may seem immature to you, but I believe a little comedic relief every now and then lets people live a life not so swallowed in....in just pure despair. Now, this is a touchy topic for you obviously, but there've been plenty of risky jokes on this site before. Just a few weeks ago, Matt cracked some joke about how morons and Mormons are similar grammatically. If something is offensive to you that you have no control over (the internet is a good example) just ignore it. There's no need to go on a vindictive post rampage

Why So Serious?

I do not understand the logic of those who say that one should not joke about tragedies. In what way would it possibly be better to just be sad about it?

If you feel grief over a tragedy, the suffering of those who experienced the tragedy causes suffering for you as well. The suffering doubles this way.

If you joke about a tragedy and laugh, the suffering of those who experienced the tragedy causes happiness for you. It kinda cancels each other out.

The fact that person gets offended when other person b follows the second model does not mean that person b is the one who should change, but person a. Model two is the much more rational one, while model one does the same thing as compassion: doubling the suffering, for no reason at all.

Man-Up.
Matt, seriously, this was fucking hilarious especially ''In the end, the lives of over 1,000 refugees are saved, which is an even bigger feat than last time considering they're all living in a moderately-sized cottage.''

Good stuff.

Offensive? I think it's quite funny. It's a very human thing to mock tragedy, And at the very least, Maybe it'll get a few people to wiki it, And actually find out what happened there.

I am confused....

What role does Nick Nolte play in the movie?

Surely not one of the refugees?

Genocide is always funny. Now child pornography on the other hand, is no laughing matter. Mainly because I like to keep comedy and business separate. What I'm trying to say is, keep up the good work! And get the presidential championship fight out here!
