Lyrics Explained: John Cougar Mellencamp - Hurt So Good

Lyrics Explained: John Cougar Mellencamp - Hurt So Good
Apr. 21, 2010
When I was a young boy,
Said put away those young boy ways

It sure was great being a kid. Running around, not a care in the world. Just free.

Now that I'm gettin' older, so much older
I long all those young boy days

Now that we’re older, we’re supposed to act mature. Go to work, get married, start a family. What kind of dining set defines me as a person?

With a girl like you
With a girl like you
Lord knows there are things we can do, baby

Let’s start a Fight Club.

Just me and you
Come on and make it hurt so good
Come on baby make it hurt so good
Sometimes love don't feel like it should
You make it hurt so good

I want you to hit me as hard as you can.

You don't have to be so excitin'
Just tryin' to give myself a little bit of fun, yeah
You always look so invitin'
You ain't as green as you are young

If this is your first night at Fight Club, you have to fight.

Hey baby its you
Come on girl now its you
Sink your teeth right through my bones, baby

How much can you know about yourself if you've never been in a fight?

Lets see what we can do
Come on and make it hurt so good

Come on, hit me before I lose my nerve.

Come on baby make it hurt so good

Go crazy. Let 'er rip.

Sometimes love don't feel like it should

You hit me in the ear!

You make it hurt so good

Ow, Christ... why the ear, man?

I ain't talkin' no big deals
I ain't made no plans myself

On a long enough timeline, the survival rate for everyone drops to zero.

I ain't talkin' no high heels
Maybe we could walkin' around, all day long,
Walkin' around, all day long

Fight Club was the beginning. Now it's moved out of the basement. It's called Project Mayhem.

Hurt so good
Come on baby make it hurt so good
Sometimes love don't feel like it should
You make it hurt so good

Hitting bottom isn't a weekend retreat. It's not a goddamn seminar.

Hurt so good
Come on baby make it hurt so good
Sometimes love don't feel like it should
You make it hurt so good

Stop trying to control everything and just let go.

Hey, hey

I am Jack's translated lyric.

In-fucking-credible, your best piece of work to date, seriously, laughed my ass of, thought this would only be understood by true Fight Club fans who have seen the movie over 10 times like i have...

Yeah, to that anonymous schmuck (irony, hi-o!) who calls himself a true Fight Club fan because he's seen the movie over ten times? Read the book over ten times, then you can boast. In a sad sort of way.

I'm pretty sure you can't brag about reading a book. thats a lose lose situation.

Not that I'm saying you shouldn't also read the book, but Chuck (the author) said he liked the way the movie told the story better than the way he did in the book.

I would say read the book then see the movie. It makes so much more sense.
You cannot boast about reading something that short ten times, It just makes you a weird guy, who didn't catch up the first time. I mean how much is there to fucking forget?
ps. i love both the book and movie

I wonder if JCM wrote an album that follows alongside Fight Club... sort of a Dark Side of the Moon/Wizard of Oz sort of thing. I think you may have discovered something!
